GENERAL INFORMATION

Therapeutic massage ranges from light pressure to as-deep-as-needed, and your therapist welcomes feedback to create your ideal, individualized treatment. Simply focus on breathing deeply and slowly, relaxing throughout your session and  being a limp noodle when the therapist moves and stretches you. Your massage may include the following modalities:

Swedish massage, deep tissue massage,

Native American (Sioux) hot and cold stone therapy,

myofascial, neuromuscular (trigger point),

Asian bodywork, joint mobilization

Swedish Massage

This is the classic whole-body relaxation massage, a sublime experience. The pressure is typically lighter, but always adapted to your preference. The main benefit (of many) is increased circulation of blood and lymph. However, Swedish alone rarely addresses chronic soft tissue dysfunction and other specific therapeutic goals.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep does not necessarily mean painful, because YOU always control the pressure based on your own tolerance. Many folks who are suffering from specific physical ailments and soft tissue restrictions are willing to breathe through some temporary discomfort to achieve relief.  Deep tissue approaches are rooted is anatomy, and they aim for results.  The heat from stone massage thoroughly warms up the tissue, and slow treatment delivery maximizes therapeutic value.  Time constraints may limit how many target areas are possible each session.

Hot and Cold Stone Massage

Forget those spa photos you've seen - the approach I learned at Cedar Stone comes from the Dakota Sioux tradition of stone medicine and therapeutically surpasses the average spa experience!  Hot stones are used as massage tools, moving through your muscles to deliver relaxing heat (NOT resting on your bare skin).  Cold stones, which offer the most healing, reduce inflammation and help flush metabolic waste out of the tissues.

Joint Mobilization

Joint mobilization includes passive range of motion and assisted stretching techniques, as well as massage techniques from Thai and Chinese traditions.  Moving the joints optimizes the body for physical activity, feels great, and is great for athletes. If you choose a mobilization session, just wear clothes that will not restrict movement.

Tui Na (Chinese massage & acupressure)

Tui Na, meaning "push-grasp," comes from the centuries-old medical traditions of China, where doctors practice a style of massage incorporating mobilization and energy work. They mapped and studied the body's various energy channels, or meridians. Using touch (rather than needles), points along these meridians can be accessed to balance energy flow and improve health.

Neuromuscular (trigger point)

If sensation is radiating to unexpected areas during your treatment, chances are you have a trigger point. Trigger points in soft tissue are a natural result of compensatory imbalances, and are addressed with neuromuscular techniques.

Myofascial

Fascia is the living connective web that surrounds every structure under the skin, including bones and organs. The client's movement participation often assists myofascial release in the musculature..

Investing in massage is an investment in your health and well being.
